Nasarawa Speaker Empowers Constituents

Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has empowered his constituents with cash and material items worth about N15 million.

Abdullahi (APC-Umaisha/Ugya) distributed the items on Sunday in Umaisha Development Area of the state.

He distributed N20,000 cash each to 100 students, 65 sewing machines and over 700 wrappers to women in his constituency.

The lawmaker also presented N30,000 cash each to 100 women of his constituency to enable them start a petty business of their choice in order to better their standard of living and that of their family members.

Besides, Abdullahi distributed 12 refrigerators and 12 generating sets to six women leaders and six assistant women leaders in the six electoral wards of his constituency to enable them enjoy the dividends of democracy.

The speaker assured the people of his readiness to continue to initiate more people-oriented programmes in the coming years.

“Today, I deem it fit to come and appreciate you again for electing me into the state legislature by distributing N20,000 each as scholarship to 100 students of my constituency under my Balarabe Education Support Programme.

“I also deem it fit to distribute N30,000 each to 100 women, 65 sewing machines, over 700 wrappers to women, 12 refrigerators and 12 generating sets to six women leaders and six assistant women leaders in the six electoral wards of my constituency as part of my empowerment programmes.

“All these gesture to the people of my constituency was part of my fulfillment of my campaign promises to the party and the electorate in order to better the standard of living of my constituents and the state at large,” he said.

Abdullahi also assured the people of a robust and quality representation at the state legislature and solicited for their support to enable him succeed.

The speaker further called on his constituents and Nigerians, in general, to continue to pray and support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura administrations, and other leaders to enable them to succeed in the task ahead of them.

“I want to use this medium to appreciate Gov. Tanko Al-Makura for the cordial relationship and understanding with the legislature and I assure him of our continued support for the good of our people,” Abdullahi said.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, Alhaji Zakari Ide and Mr Philip Shekwo, the All Progressive Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman, North Central Zone and state APC Chairman, respectively, urged them to use the items for the purpose it was meant for.

The party leaders commended the speaker for the gesture and called on other elected and appointed political officers to emulate him.

Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr Usman Sidi, a student of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, thanked the speaker for the gesture, describing it as the first of its kind in the political history of the area and called for its sustenance.

The occasion was attended by dignitaries including Mr Nuhu Dauda, Chairman, Interim Management Committee of Toto Local Government Council; Alhaji Aliyu Bello, the state’s Secretary of APC; present and former state lawmakers, and other stakeholders.

In December 2016, the speaker distributed scholarship, modern flying boats and vehicles, among other items, worth N14 million to his constituents.

Abdullahi had earlier sunk boreholes, distributed motorcycles and other empowerment programmes while marking his 100 days in office.
