Napoli to start boycotting African players—Napoli President

Napoli President confirms Napoli will start boycotting African players unless they agree to a secret contract before they are signed.

The AFCON tournament has become quite the nightmare for European clubs lately due to the fact they tend to lose their players to the African tournament.

Italian club, Napoli is no exception as the club lost its main defender in Kalidou Koulibaly to the tournament in the recently concluded AFCON.

For the Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, he reveals he will never sign African players anymore unless they can agree to sign a contract that keeps them out of the tournament.

The club lost at least 3 players to the Cameroon tournament which could have been 4 had Victor Osimhen been injury free.

During that time, the Partenopeans lost just one game- against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia.

According to the Napoli President, he now regrets ever signing them to the club, saying:

“I told them lads, don’t talk to me about Africans anymore!” De Laurentiis said as per Football Italia.

“I love them, but either they sign something confirming they’ll back out of playing the Africa Cup of Nations, or otherwise between that tournament, the World Cup qualifiers in South America, these players are never available!

“We are the idiots who pay salaries only to send them all over the world playing for others.” De Laurentiis said.

Anguissa and Osimhen are two of Napoli’s most important assets going into next season.

But that doesn’t stop Napoli or European clubs from having a fear of the AFCON tournament.
