Naira: “We were laughing at Nigerians” — Shettima
In a recent meeting with a delegation from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Vice-President Kashim Shettima conveyed strong optimism regarding the trajectory of the Naira against the Dollar in the foreign exchange market.
The assurance came during a courtesy visit to his office at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, led by LCCI President Gabriel Idahosa.
Addressing the gathering, Shettima reflected on the recent fluctuations in the Naira’s value, noting that while some individuals celebrated its instability, his administration remained quietly confident in their ability to rectify the situation. He credited this confidence to the leadership’s strategic foresight.
“Naira went haywire and some people were celebrating but inwardly we were laughing at them because we knew that we had the leadership to reverse the trend. Asiwaju knows the game, and truly the naira is gaining and the difference will drop further.”
Shettima highlighted the pivotal role played by President Bola Tinubu in implementing crucial economic reforms, particularly in ending fuel subsidies and unifying the multiple exchange rates. He emphasized that such measures were imperative to curb the overnight emergence of new billionaires under the previous system.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for laying the groundwork for the ongoing development in Lagos and reiterated the government’s commitment to job creation for Nigerian youths.
Shettima underscored President Tinubu’s dedication to elevating Nigeria’s status on the global stage, emphasizing the importance of leaving a lasting legacy of exemplary leadership.
Moreover, Shettima assured the LCCI delegation of President Tinubu’s alignment with their interests, affirming his deep understanding of their business ecosystem.
He extended a hand of partnership and friendship from the current administration to the business community, emphasizing their shared goals for national progress.
