My Real Beef With Ronaldo—Fernando Santos Clears Air

Portugal coach, Fernando Santos may just as well face the brunt that Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag faced benching star player, Cristiano Ronaldo in his team, but if there is anything to go by the manager’s personality, he knows how to answer the questions whenever they came.

Fernando Santos, the manager of Portugal, has discussed his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo within the Portugal national team.

After Fernando Santos decided to sit the illustrious striker in Tuesday’s World Cup round of sixteen victory for Portugal, he commented.

Goncalo Ramos, a striker for Benfica, was selected by Santos for the game and ended up scoring three goals.

Ramos became the first player at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar to score a hat-trick.

At the World Cup this year, Ronaldo has only managed one goal, a penalty kick against Ghana in the opening game.

Naturally, speculation will now focus on whether the 21-year-old Benfica player will keep his spot in the lineup for the upcoming match or if Ronaldo will make a comeback despite his poor performance this year.

On what Ronaldo’s role would be in Fernando Santos’ team going forward, he said:

“That is still something that has to be defined.

“I have a very close relationship with him – I always have, I have known him since he was 19 years old. I will always consider in my role that he is an important player to have in the team.”
