My Father Was The First Owner Of Banana Island But Govt. Took It From Him– Man Spills

Remi Adeleke, a Nigerian-American filmmaker, has made a startling claim that the popular highbrow residential area in Lagos state, Banana Island, originally belonged to his father.

In a series of tweets shared on the occasion of US Independence Day, Remi alleged that the Nigerian government “stole” the land from his father.

According to Remi’s account, his father left Nigeria as a teenager to pursue his education in the UK. After completing his studies, including a Masters degree, his father returned to Nigeria with the vision of creating a “World Trade Center/African Wall Street” using his expertise and wealth of experience.

Remi claimed that his father led a prosperous life until 1987, when the Nigerian government allegedly seized his assets, including a man-made island that is now famously known as Banana Island.

He further revealed that his father mysteriously passed away while fighting to regain his properties.

As a result of the alleged government intervention, Remi stated that his family’s financial situation drastically changed from being wealthy to impoverished. His mother made the difficult decision to relocate him and his brother to the United States, where they could access better education and opportunities for a brighter future.
