"Muslim-Muslim ticket not working in our favor" -- Sharia Court

The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) has voiced dissatisfaction with the performance of the Muslim-Muslim ticket it endorsed during the 2023 presidential election, asserting that it has failed to meet the expectations of the Nigerian populace.

During a National Conference held in Abuja, Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, the President of SCSN, shared his concerns with journalists, highlighting the lack of positive changes in the lives of Nigerians since the election.

Despite the significant support received by the President during the electoral process, Sheikh AbdurRasheed expressed disappointment that the promised dividends of democracy have not materialized.

“The Nigeria of today is too bad. What we are buying at N200 before is N2000 now. We have scarcity of Naira, and unemployment is escalating. Nigerians are not enjoying the new government at all.

“I don’t want to go personal, but the Sharia Council helped the Muslim-Muslim ticket to be successful. We campaigned and supported this government until it came to power, but we are suffering,” he lamented.

Sheikh AbdurRasheed went on to criticize the alleged actions of some ministers in the government, accusing them of siphoning and looting the treasury.

While refraining from naming specific individuals, he emphasized the visible challenges faced by Nigerians since the government assumed power.

“See how Nigerians are suffering. No money. No progress. We have not enjoyed anything since seven months of this government.

“We are sympathetic with this government, but the way forward is for some of these ministers to go home and rest, and we will find other people who will be honest with themselves and the country, those who are there to work, not to loot the country,” he declared.

The adoption of the Muslim-Muslim ticket by President Tinubu, the ruling APC’s presidential candidate, choosing Kashim Shettima as his running mate, had sparked controversy, particularly among Christian faithfuls who expressed concerns about religious diversity and representation in the leadership.
