“He is one of many who want us relegated” — Guardiola raises alarm
The rivalry between Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho has taken a fiery new twist, as the Manchester City boss hit back at Mourinho’s sly jab about “winning fairly and cleanly.”
Following Manchester City’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool, Guardiola sparked headlines by holding up six fingers to signify his Premier League titles.
The gesture drew comparisons to Mourinho’s infamous three-finger salute during his Manchester United days, a nod to his trio of Premier League triumphs with Chelsea.

But Mourinho wasn’t about to let it slide. Speaking on Guardiola’s success, the Roma boss took aim at City’s ongoing financial fair play allegations, saying:
“I won three titles fairly and cleanly. If I lose, I congratulate my opponent. I don’t want to win with 150 court cases behind me.”
Guardiola, known for his composed demeanor, couldn’t resist a pointed response:
“Jose’s just one of many who want us relegated to League One or the Conference. But remember, we are innocent until proven guilty.”
The exchange adds another layer to the Guardiola-Mourinho rivalry, reigniting debates about City’s alleged financial rule breaches and the integrity of their achievements.
