Mother, son, others charged for theft in Osun State

A 52-year-old woman, Patience Ayube and her son, Josiah Ayube, on Wednesday, appeared before an Osun State Magistrates’ Court hearing in Ile-Ife over the theft of a motorbike.

Additionally charged together with the duo were Joseph Oluwaseun and Friday Emmanuel stated to have conspired to steal the motorbike worth N285, 000.

Addressing the court, the police district attorney, Abdullahi Emmanuel, declared that the defendants conspired and stole one Honda motorbike worth N285,000, which belongs to one Emmanuel Akpan.

The Police prosecutor further accused the defendants of demeanour possible to cause a breach of public peace when they attacked Akpan.

The offences committed were stated to be contrary to sections 249(d), 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, appealed to the court to admit them to bail in liberal terms.

Ruling on the application, the presiding magistrate, A. Oyebadejo, admitted each of the defendants to bail in the sum of N50,000 or an indemnity in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 30 for hearing.
