Rocky Balboa Was Our Inspiration—Morocco Coach

Talk about a moment that united to continents between the Arab world and Africa, you need not look farther than Morocco emerging victories against European side, Portugal, and for former Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh, it’s about time the world learnt a thing or two.

Africa are still a footballing side to be taken serious, and not to be seen as push overs with how Morocco has shown to the world of the possibilities their wins against Belgium, Spain and Portugal can bring going forward.

Sunday Oliseh, a former head coach of the Super Eagles, praised the Atlas Lions of Morocco following their victory over Portugal on Saturday.

After an exciting 1-0 victory over Portugal at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha, the Atlas Lions became the first African team to go to the World Cup semifinals.

Youssef En-Nesyri, a forward for Sevilla, scored the game-winning goal in the 42nd minute.

After the half, Portugal made a valiant effort to tie the game, but Morocco won thanks to a staunch defensive effort.

“After 48 years of trying Morocco has made Africa into world superpower status in football. Ecstatic & privileged to be here at Al Thumama Stadium to witness Morocco do it. Wifey jokingly predicted this when she came to Qatar! Guess our wives are always right after all,” Sunday Oliseh wrote on his Twitter handle.

Indeed wives do know better.

The World Cup semi-final match between the North Africans and France will take place on Wednesday at the Al Bayt Stadium.

On the positive news following Morocco’s victory, FIFA has confirmed that going forward, 9 African countries would be competing in the World Cup. It’s about time.
