Mixed reactions as LASU launches bakery to boost internal revenue

The Lagos State University LASU has received mixed reactions on social media following its decision to start a bakery in a bid to increase its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

LASU made the announcement on Wednesday, March 29, stating that their bread would be the only one available on campus going forward.

While some have welcomed the move as a way to generate more revenue for the institution, others have raised concerns about the university’s priority.

Critics argue that a university’s primary focus should be research and education, and that running a bakery could distract from those goals.

Additionally, some individuals have criticized the university management for driving out other bread competitors in the school, in order to establish a monopoly on campus.

The move has sparked discussions on social media, with many expressing differing opinions on the issue.

It remains to be seen how the bakery will affect LASU ‘s revenue, and whether or not it will have any impact on the quality of education and research being conducted on campus.

The school shared a photo of the school’s Vice Chancellor showcasing the bread and wrote,

“Accolades for the VC, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, as LASU Bakery opens for business.
The bakery is part of her administration’s drive to increase IGR. The LASU Bread will henceforth be the only bread on the university main campus, Ojo.”
