Mikel Arteta puts 7 Arsenal players for sell
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is reportedly planning a major squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer window, with at least seven players set to leave the club. The UK Sun has reported that the Gunners’ record signing, Nicolas Pepe, is at the top of the list of players who may be shown the door.
Pepe arrived at the Emirates in 2019 in a deal worth a staggering £72m. However, the Ivorian winger has failed to live up to expectations since his arrival, scoring just 16 goals in 80 league appearances for the club. This season, Pepe has been sent out on loan to Nice, where he has performed well, but it seems that Arteta is ready to move on from the player.
Pepe is not the only player who could be on his way out of Arsenal, as the club has several other players currently out on loan who may also be shown the exit door. These include Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Cedric Soares, who are all playing for Premier League clubs. Abroad, Nuno Tavares is with Marseille, while Alex Runarsson is at Alanyaspor and Pablo Mari is in Italy with Monza.
All of the players listed above could find themselves looking for new clubs once their loan deals come to an end. While some of these players may have a future at Arsenal, it seems that Arteta is ready to move on from a significant number of players and bring in fresh talent to improve the squad.
Arsenal has had a disappointing season so far, currently sitting in ninth place in the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta will be hoping to make some significant changes to the squad this summer to ensure that the team can challenge for a top-four finish next season. With seven players set to leave, the Spanish manager will have plenty of space to bring in new players and reshape the squad.
Overall, it appears that Arsenal is set for a summer of significant change, as Arteta looks to rebuild the team and improve the club’s fortunes.
While it remains to be seen who will be brought in to replace the departing players, Arsenal fans will be hoping that Mikel Arteta can bring in some quality signings to help the team compete at the highest level.
