Mike Dean admits to Being at fault for Chelsea dropping points

It’s very rare to see a referee, specifically a Premier League referee admit to an error on his part, and for Mike Dean, he sees the draw against Tottenham as partly his fault.

Speaking about the match, Mike Dean who was in charge of VAR duties, admits he regrets not sending the match day official, Anthony Taylor to his pitch side monitor to look at an incident between Cristian Romero and Marc Cucurella.

The feisty draw in the dramatic derby was famous for a controversial situation, aside the managers scuffle at certain stages of the game, an incident that involved Spur’s defender, Romero pulling on Marc Cucurella’s hair.

The incident according to some spectators of the game said it should have resulted in a red card for violent conduct, which sadly was never given, leading to an eventual equalizer by Harry Kane in the 96th minute.

“I’ve since studied the footage, spoken to other referees and, upon reflection, I should have asked Taylor to visit his pitch-side monitor to take a look for himself. The referee on field always has the final say.” Dean said.

Speaking on an official coming out to admit fault, Sportsmail columnist, Chris Sutton noted it was a positive for him to be willing to speak on his involvement in the game.

“Good on Mike Dean for fronting up,’ Sutton said. ‘It’s refreshing. We see weekly apologies from footballers on social media if they messed up and received a red card.

“Like the one posted by Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez after his costly head-butt on Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen. But we’ve grown accustomed to referees, assistants, VARs staying quiet.”

The Chelsea fan base have always picked a problem or two with Anthony Taylor’s officiating and have raised votes to stop the referee from officiating any of their future games.
