Men beat thief to death in Ogun
A man identified as Tunji George was beaten to death by 3 men in Ogun State for allegedly stealing an iPhone 6.
It was reported that the three suspects, Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa, and Oluwatobi Michael lynched George after they had tied him down at Keke Hotel in the Iyana Iyesi area of Ota Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi said the body of the victim had been deposited at the General Hospital’s mortuary, Ota, for autopsy.
Oyeyemi noted that the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole had directed the transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
It was gathered that the sister of the victim, Bola George, had reported at Onipanu divisional police headquarters that her brother is under attack over the alleged theft of an iPhone 6.
Bola alleged that the suspects, upon the allegation, “tied the deceased with a rope in the hotel and tortured him to death.”
“Having realized that the victim was about to give up the ghost, the suspects quickly rushed him to a hospital, but before they got to the hospital, the victim had died,” the command PPRO told newsmen on Thursday.
The DPO of the Onipanu Division, CSP Bamidele Job, was said to have mobilized his men to the scene, where two of the suspects were apprehended, while the remaining one was arrested in the hotel where the deed was done.
Oyeyemi said: “On interrogation, the suspects informed the police that they strongly suspected the deceased as the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to torture him not knowing that it would result in his death.”
The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area is one of the 19 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, Nigeria. It came into existence on May 19, 1989, following the merging of Ota, part of the defunct Ifo/Ota Local Government with Ado-Odo/Igbesa Areas of the Yewa South Local Government.
