Men Arrested In Hong Kong After Police Attack With Water Guns
Two men who had reportedly used water guns to soak police officers during a Thai festival have been arrested in Hong Kong.
The event had occurred during the Songkran festival, which is celebrated in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries by splashing water on one another as a symbol of cleansing and renewal.
According to further reports, the two men, both in their twenties, were participating in the festival in the popular shopping district of Causeway Bay when they allegedly targeted a group of police officers who were monitoring the event.
The police had immediately arrested the suspects and seized their water guns.
The human rights groups have called for an end to the government’s crackdown on dissent and a respect for the right to free expression. Meanwhile, supporters of the police have praised their actions as necessary to maintain order and prevent violence.
The two men are currently being held in custody and are expected to be charged with assault on police officers.
