House Committee summons NNPC CEO Mele Kyari over $72 million claim

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has issued a summons to the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, about a $72 million claim by De Coon Limited, an indigenous oil services provider.

De Coon Limited approached the Reps Committee after multiple attempts to recover the fund proved unsuccessful.

A summons letter, dated Monday and obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday in Abuja, indicates that Mele Kyari, along with the CEO of Onado Nigeria Limited, Obiageli Okeke, and key staff of Nigeria Agip Oil Company, have been called to testify.

Additionally, senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Petroleum, including the Minister and Permanent Secretary, are expected to appear. Other summoned officials include the Group CEO of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), NNPC staff including Momodu Mohammed (Team Lead GRC), NAPIMS representatives Kanayo Odor, Salisu Bakaro, Lanre Richard, and Engr Mohammed Ismailia, as well as the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board, and the Managing Director of Total E&P Nigeria.

The summons reads: “You are hereby required to note sections 88 and 89(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and appear in person before this committee on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm or as soon thereafter as the committee shall direct.”

This hearing will address the unresolved $72 million claim by De Coon Limited, aiming to clarify and potentially resolve the dispute.
