Medical staff in Ogun State disclosed that they would quit their delivery of services at the public hospitals Tuesday midnight because of the supposed high rate of insecurity in the state.
The medical staff in the state under the protection of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) and Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) declared this to our reporter on Tuesday.
However, the chairman of the NANNM, Roseline Solarin confirmed the strike action through a statement, the chairman NMA, Dr Oladayo Ogunlaja, affirmed the planned strike in a telephone interview with our reporter.
In the statement issued by NANNM, dated April 12 and addressed to the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Tomi Coker, the nurses censured the unconcerned disposition of the government towards the release of their colleagues.
In the statement named, “Notification of withdrawal of services’, the NANNM portrayed the method implemented by the government as inexcusable.
The Chairman of NMA stated that the strike was a joint resolve between the NMA and NANNM, adding that they are proceeding with the strike in spite of the release of their kidnapped colleagues until the government does that which is required.
Ogunlaja added that except and until the government guarantees the safety of medical staff at their place of work, the strike would continue.
He said, “There are a lot of security challenges in the state now. I want the state government to address them before we go back to work.
“To make where we work a safe place so that we can work without any fear. The state is now becoming unsafe for everybody living in the state.
“We want the government to do the needful so that we will know that we are secured.”
