Mauricio Pochettino close to being confirmed as Chelsea manager

Negotiations between Chelsea’s board and former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino are progressing quickly, with an agreement reportedly close. While the deal is not yet done and the process is still ongoing, both parties are optimistic as talks enter their final stages.

According to sources close to the discussions as revealed by Fabrizio Romano, Pochettino and Chelsea have discussed a long-term project, with the former Spurs and PSG coach telling people from his backroom staff to get ready for a new job. The crucial points of the negotiations, including transfers and connection with the board, have reportedly been discussed with a very positive outcome for Pochettino.

This news comes after it was reported that Julian Nagelsmann left the race last Friday, as exclusively revealed, while Luis Enrique is no longer on the list of potential candidates for the job. It is worth noting that Tottenham have never approached Pochettino in the last few months, despite numerous links and reports to the contrary.

If Pochettino does end up taking over at Stamford Bridge, it would be a significant coup for Chelsea. Pochettino is widely regarded as one of the top managers in world football, having guided Tottenham to the Champions League final in 2019 and led PSG to the French Cup and French Super Cup in the 2020-21 season.

With Pochettino at the helm, Chelsea would likely be seen as serious contenders for the Premier League title next season. The Blues finished fourth in the 2020-21 campaign, but with a number of high-profile signings in the pipeline, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the near future.
