Matheus Nunes believed to be holding out for Liverpool
According to reports from Portugal, Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Matheus Nunes recently rejected a big money move to Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
It is believed the 23 year old is holding out for another Premier League side which from rumors is speculated to be Liverpool as he favors Champions League football.
The Sporting Lisbon star had the breakthrough season last 2021/22 campaign to see him linked with a move away from the Portuguese league to as far as the Premier League.
Liverpool are understood to be on the edge for a signing particularly in midfield should their midfield situation not improve following Thiago Alcantara’s injury during the Fulham game.
At the moment, the Merseyside club would be counting their luck at the middle of the park considering they are short of midfield options should any more player go out injured.
It shouldn’t be surprising that Wolves moved for Matheus Nunes considering the club has seen an influx of Portuguese talents to the Midlands after the take over by Fosun International in 2017.
Although the links to Liverpool seem to have build as a result of Liverpool sporting director, Julian Ward’s relationship with Portuguese clubs that has seen 2 players move over from Benfica and Porto to Merseyside.
With a number of injuries at the middle of Liverpool’s park, it remains to be seen if the club budges to allow for a new summer signing.
Matheus Nunes primarily operates as a No. 8 in central midfield for Sporting Lisbon, but Liverpool are understood to be interested in Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Jude Bellingham who the Bundesliga side aren’t ready to let go this summer.
