Mass murder in Kogi Community of Ejule as gunmen invade
In a horrifying incident that unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, Ejule town in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State experienced a deadly invasion by unknown gunmen, resulting in the loss of several lives and instilling fear in the community.
Reports suggest that the attack began around 3 a.m., catching the residents off guard.
Among the victims of this senseless violence were a commercial motorcyclist, commonly referred to as an okada rider, and the wife of a respected youth leader in the town. Tragically, the okada rider was struck by a stray bullet, while the woman, in her desperate search for her husband, fell victim to the assailants’ gunfire, losing her life on the spot. Furthermore, it has been reported that the hoodlums set ablaze a family house, intensifying the devastation caused by their actions.
As the chaos unfolded, residents were forced to take shelter indoors or flee the town, seeking safety from the ongoing violence. The exact number of casualties remains uncertain, as the situation remains tense and access to the affected areas remains restricted. Eyewitnesses, however, attest to witnessing more lifeless bodies strewn across the streets, a grim testament to the tragic events that transpired.
Commander Jerry Omadara (retd), the Security Adviser to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, confirmed the incident but expressed his lack of detailed information at the time of the interview. The police authorities, including the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP William Aya, could not be reached for comment as their calls went unanswered.
The community of Ejule is now gripped with fear and uncertainty as the investigation into this heinous attack begins. The motives behind the gunmen’s actions and their identities remain unknown, leaving the residents anxiously awaiting answers and demanding swift justice.
