Masari advocates for power rotation, says it’ll boost our federalism
Aminu Bello Masari, Governor of Katsina State, has revealed his support for rotation of power from one region of the country to another, he says that it will help to strengthen the country’s federalism. Governor Masari said this at a media parley in Katsina on Tuesday.
As the 2023 presidential election approaches, there has been a clamour for power to shift to the southern part of the country, especially the South-East region.
According to the governor, while the current 1999 constitution (as amended) may not have provided for regional rotation of power, such rotation will help the country’s current political structure.
He said: “Let me make my position very clear. This constitution is made for us, and not that we are made for the constitution.
“The constitution does not say we must shift power, but if you shift, have you violated any part of the constitution?
“From my personal opinion as Aminu Bello Masari, until such a time when we have stable polity, I think rotation or shifting power from time to time will help consolidate our federalism.”
