On Saturday, August 24, at Disney’s D23 Expo, Marvel officially announced that Black Panther 2 will arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022. Director Ryan Coogler will return to the franchise.

The first Black Panther film was a massive hit, and biggest solo superhero movie for Marvel in history.

Kevin Feige announced at the Walt Disney Studios panel that Black Panther 2 written and directed by Ryan Coogler is coming out on May 6, 2022. The screenplay is finished but the title of the film hasn’t been revealed.

Black Panther made $1.3 billion worldwide and was the first Marvel superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

“We’re really hard at work on it, trying to give you guys something special. We’re definitely taking our time with this… We really really want it to be right,” said Coogler.

I think I’m stating the obvious but surely Chadwick Boseman will return as T’Challa. I would expect the rest of the cast will be confirmed at a later date. There have been some wild rumors floating around about Black Panther II and it will be fascinating to see what comes to fruition. Especially, if Marvel follows up on that “underwater earthquakes” under Wakanda tease they delivered in Endgame.

Black Panther II arrives on May 6, 2022.
