Marin Luther King Jr.’s youngest son, Dexter Scott King has been confirmed dead after battling with prostrate cancer for years.

The King Center confirmed his death on Monday, January 22. His wife, Leah Weber King, was with him when he died, and she said, “He transitioned peacefully in his sleep at home with her in Malibu.”

It’s unknown when Dexter was diagnosed, but he’s the second child of MLK to die since his father was slain in 1968.

Yolanda King was the first of the children to die, in 2007, as a consequence of complications from ovarian cancer and other illnesses. Martin Luther King III, the oldest, and Bernice King, the youngest, are the only two surviving living children.

Dexter, who died at the age of 62, carried on his father’s lagacy of fighting for civil rights into the twenty-first century, but he was most noteworthy for facing James Earl Ray, the man convicted and imprisoned for assassinating Dr. King. He questioned him directly whether he done it, and received a “no.”

Dexter stated he believed James at the time and floated conspiracy theories about who truly arranged his father’s assassination, implying that the US government was involved.

He also played his father in the 2002 television film ‘The Rosa Parks Story’. His likeness to Dr. King was something that was much discussed.
