Manchester United will miss David de Gea — Rio Ferdinand
A case of ‘you don’t know what you have until he’s gone’ with David de Gea and Manchester United, according to former United defender, Rio Ferdinand.
The Man United legend insists that despite all the criticisms and the eventual contract standoff between the club and the Spaniard, the team will eventually come to miss the Spanish international this season.
In a widely controversial move, the Red Devils’ shot-stopper departed the club this summer following the expiration of his contract at the end of June, with the Old Trafford club fast tracking a move for Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
Speaking about David de Gea, Rio Ferdinand said:
“I think they will miss him. He is arguably the best shot-stopper around, and won the Golden Glove last year. So, I don’t think the keeper that won the Golden Glove would be relieved of his duties at a football club in any other era.
“But the way that the game’s going now, in wanting the goalkeeper to be attached to the 10 outfield players and be a footballer now, that is why we are in that situation.”
