Manchester United Vs. Southampton -- A 0-0 Sigh Of Relief

Manchester United went into the first premier league game following the 7-0 humiliation at Anfield looking to set things straight for their fans at Old Trafford, but Southampton on the other hand had other plans heading into the game.

Southampton were looking to escape the relegation spot they had found themselves in, while Manchester United wanted to reclaim whatever dignity they had left in the Premier League.

The game started with the Red Devils looking promising in the attack, ready to do the needful through Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and at a point, Antony, with chance after chance falling on the wounded Devils to make their mark in the game.

However, a resilient Southampton held tight their defense, with Kyle Walker-Peters one of the shinning lights in the defense to keep things close and the wings tight from the threats of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

The Saints credit to them also proved how threatening they could be through set pieces, with James Ward-Prowse providing the danger with lethal crosses to shake the defence of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane.

Former Everton man, Theo Walcott had the chance to be the hero in the game and secure Southampton the winner in certain stages of the game, but proved the nemesis in the Saints attack each time he flunked the chances gifted the visitors.

Summer signing from Real Madrid, Casemiro was Manchester United’s nemesis as his error to get the ball off a Southampton player, Carlos Alcaraz’s feet without causing a foul forced the Red Devils to see out the game with one man down via a Red card in the 34th minute.

The sending off was meant to be an advantage for the visiting team, but Manchester United’s resilience in both defense and attack, made the affair a balanced contest where both teams at full time found themselves breathing a sigh of relief.

It could have been a loss for either side, instead, it gave neutrals and fans alike, a thrilling Premier League weekend.
