Manchester United vs. Bayern Munich: Can A Miracle Happen?

Manchester United versus Bayern Munich, can the Red Devils shock the world?

It is no secret that in recent years, premier league great, Manchester United has been reduced to nothing but a banter club. However if there is something the club is known for, it is in creating the headlines that leaves the football world talking.

Ahead of the UEFA Champions League tie with 6-times Champions of the competition, Bayern Munich at Old Trafford, the Red Devils face an uphill battle to avoid elimination both from the tournament and from Europe.

With 4-points from 5 games in Group A, Manchester United currently sits bottom of the group, a contrast to their opponent who sit top on 13 points.

The Red Devils go into this tie only having managed 1 win and a draw from their 5 fixtures, a scenario that puts the team in danger zone and their fate, wrapped in the palms of their group rivals.

Victory at Old Trafford alone does not guaranty qualification into the next stage of the competition no matter how many goals they score against the Bundesliga side.

However, a win against Bayern Munich guaranty’s qualification into the Europa League round of 32 assuming a winner comes out of the tie between FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray who both sit above Manchester United on 5-points each. A win for either Copenhagen or Galatasaray takes one to the second spot on 8-points, thus damning Manchester United to third spot on 7-points.

Hence, a scenario that involves the Red Devils remaining in the Champions League is dependent on neither Copenhagen or Galatasaray beating the other or Manchester United losing to their Visitors at Old Trafford.

The calculations seems very much a complicated one considering all 4 teams would be going out for the win to close out the group on good form. Bar Bayern Munich, all 3 teams have a lot to lose if they fail at the goal.

For Bayern, it is however about regaining glory and coming back from a 5-1 defeat to Frankfurt last weekend, with the Red Devils the unwitting prey in a revenge mission.

But if there is something a team lusting for the media narratives can do on a day the world sees them as nothing but the underdogs, it is proving that miracles sometimes do happen, and after all, this is December.
