Manchester United vs. AFC Bournemouth: What to Expect
Manchester United vs. AFC Bournemouth can’t come any sooner and at a more perfect time than now for the Red Devils at Old Trafford.
After the Old Trafford side saw their confidence boosted by a 2-1 win at same ground in mid-week to Chelsea, Manchester United see a chance to close the gap between them and their City rivals, Manchester City in the premier league table. Though it will mean being a game ahead of the premier league champions, but keeping themselves closer to City in a season many will regard as United’s worse sends a lot of message on what success means for the club and the team this season.
Bournemouth however are not to be written off entirely, as they have proved themselves quite formidable and resilient this season, handing out defeats to tougher teams and creating a lot of problems to teams even when outmatched.
They currently sit 15th in the premier league table with 16 points tally, 4 wins, 4 draws and 7 losses, a contrasting fortune for Manchester United who currently sit 6th on 27 points and are with 9 wins, 0 draws and 6 defeats.
A win for the Red Devils (the expected outcome) takes them closer to the top 4 spot, and a defeat or a draw keeps them stalled from getting into the top 4 conversation, and leaves the likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and West Ham United with an opportunity to climb ahead of them.
For Bournemouth however, a win at Old Trafford gets them closer to the top 10 spots depending on what their opponents in the league table do in their own respective fixtures, which judging by the Cherries’ standard makes for a good season.
It is a tie for glory and for pride for Manchester United, but for Bournemouth a chance to keep their survival in the premier league guaranteed with every opportunity that comes.
