Manchester United to make daring move for Liverpool midfielder

Erik ten Hag could break an unspoken Liverpool vs. Manchester United tradition if current reports from Serbian outlet is correct regarding his interest in former Liverpool midfielder, Marko Grujic.

Manchester United has reportedly made an initial enquiry to sign former Liverpool midfielder, Marko Grujic, in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Serbian has attracted interest from United and AC Milan, with both clubs reportedly speaking to intermediaries about the potential deal.

According to a report by Serbian outlet, Telegraf, Grujic could potentially snub United’s approach due to their intense rivalry with Liverpool. The midfielder joined Liverpool in a £5 million deal in 2016 but failed to make a significant impact during his time at Anfield. He was subsequently loaned out to Cardiff City, Hertha Berlin and Porto, where he spent the 2020-21 season.

Porto ended up making the move permanent in 2021 as they paid a fee of £10.5 million to Liverpool. However, Grujic has found himself out of favour at Porto, having made just 12 appearances in all competitions this season.

It is believed that United’s interest in Grujic is due to the club’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, who previously coached the midfielder during his time at Ajax. Ten Hag is reportedly keen on bringing Grujic to Old Trafford as he looks to strengthen his midfield options for next season.

Grujic is known for his physicality and his ability to break up play in midfield. He has also shown flashes of attacking quality, with four goals and two assists in 39 appearances for Porto.

However, the midfielder’s potential move to United is likely to be met with some resistance from Liverpool fans, given the fierce rivalry between the two clubs. It remains to be seen whether Grujic will be willing to make the switch to Old Trafford and risk alienating himself from his former club’s supporters.
