Manchester United to fight Arsenal for Jude Bellingham alternative

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga, as they search for potential replacements for their current midfielders. According to reports, United’s manager Erik ten Hag is targeting midfield recruits this summer, as Scott McTominay and Fred are rumored to be considering an exit.

The future of Marcel Sabitzer at Old Trafford also remains uncertain, following a successful loan spell at the club, which has seen his parent club Bayern Munich increase their asking price to £35 million amid interest from Tottenham and Aston Villa. United have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, but the high transfer fee demanded by Dortmund has reportedly put Liverpool off.

In the event that Sabitzer and others move on from United, the Red Devils are said to be considering 20-year-old Veiga as a cheaper alternative to Bellingham. According to Spanish publication AS (via Sport Witness), United are keen to sign Veiga this summer, with Celta Vigo willing to let him go for £36 million.

Veiga has enjoyed a breakout season in La Liga, scoring nine goals and providing four assists across all competitions. Respected football scout Jacek Kulig has described him as “amazing.” However, United are expected to face competition for his signature, with Arsenal also allegedly plotting a move for the midfielder.

Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add depth to his midfield in preparation for a busy European schedule next season, with Martin Odegaard having done the majority of the heavy-lifting in the attacking midfield position this term. Veiga is said to be ‘dreaming’ of a move to the Emirates.

It remains to be seen whether United or Arsenal will secure Veiga’s signature, but both clubs are expected to make moves for midfield reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
