Manchester United technically eliminated from the UCL

Manchester United face a very familiar foe in penultimate Champions League group stage fixture as Hakim Ziyech returns to doom former premier league rivals in Europe.

From bad to worse, and from a promising position, Manchester United sees their opportunity to qualify from their UCL group to the Round of 16 crumble as they fail to beat Turkish side, Galatasaray in their penultimate fixture of the Champions League group stage.

Though the hope of gaining qualification out from the group isn’t mathematically settled, the 3-3 draw against the Turkish giants, now takes the Red Devils’ own destiny out from their own hands.

As sad as it will be for the Manchester United fan base, the hope is for German Bundesliga side, Bayern Munich who currently tops the Group A table to do the premier league side a favor by beating FC Copenhagen. This leaves Manchester United needing to secure all 3 points against Bayern Munich in their final Champions League group stage tie.

A win against Bayern Munich will ensure the Red Devils sit at 7-points as long as Copenhagen does not secure any points against Munich and in turn claim all maximum points against Galatasaray next week.

Manchester United like they did prior to the international break while facing FC Copenhagen, started hostilities against their Turkish opponents on a high note, racing into a 0-2 lead in the first half through goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes.

However, shortly before the half time whistle, Hakim Ziyech was able to pull a goal back for Galatasaray.

United returned from the break to double the lead once more through a Scott McTominay stunner to improve tidings for the Red Devils, but again, former Chelsea star, Hakim Ziyech was on hand to pull the goal back to complete a brace.

Second half substitute for Galatasaray, Kerem Akturkoglu came on to level the tie before the full time whistle to doom Manchester United to a 3-3 draw.

This leaves the premier league side stuck in the 4th position, last in the Group A table and facing total elimination from Europe.
