Manchester United takeover: The Latest

The takeover of Manchester United has been every Man United fans’ wet dream, owing to how badly they want its current owners gone from the administrative duties of the club.

However, the Glazer family keeps making those dreams nothing more than fantasies with every business move the Americans make. Classic capitalists you would say, and now, the group that has long eyed a purchase of the club, makes their stance clear.

The prospective Qatari ownership group vying to acquire Manchester United has reiterated its stance amidst the latest proposal put forward by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In November 2022, the Glazer family, Manchester United‘s current owners, put the Premier League giants up for sale, sparking significant interest from both Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim.

Despite the enthusiastic pursuit of the football club, a concrete deal has yet to materialize, leaving the future of Manchester United hanging in the balance. Reports even suggested that the Glazers were contemplating taking the club off the market and resuming sale discussions in 2025.

However, Ratcliffe’s recent offer has apparently piqued the Glazers’ interest. The 70-year-old billionaire’s proposal of acquiring a 25 percent stake in the club for £1.5 billion has been described by an insider close to the process as “feasible.”

Nevertheless, the Qatari group remains resolute in its position, declining to increase its existing offer of £5 billion, despite the new threat posed by Ratcliffe’s bid, as reported by The Times.

Sources with knowledge of the Qatari group’s stance have characterized Ratcliffe’s revised offer as yet another pressure tactic aimed at compelling them to augment their bid.

The Qatari investors remain steadfast in their pursuit of a complete takeover, offering £5 billion to acquire 100 percent ownership of Manchester United, steadfastly rejecting the club’s £6 billion price tag.

Sheikh Jassim, a key figure within the Qatari group, has expressed a commitment to erasing the club’s debts and investing in both the men’s and women’s teams, as well as the academy.

The ongoing takeover saga of the Red Devils continues to be a source of intrigue, with the Qatari group maintaining its interest in acquiring the footballing powerhouse, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s latest move.
