Manchester United send ‘spies’ after Sporting teenager
Ruben Amorim is wasting no time shaping his vision for Manchester United, with reports linking the club to a sensational move for Sporting Lisbon’s teenage sensation Geovany Quenda.
The 17-year-old winger, who broke Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as Sporting’s youngest-ever scorer, is reportedly on United’s radar as Amorim looks to infuse his squad with familiar talent.
Amorim, who took charge of United in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich at Portman Road, acknowledged the growing pains his side will face under his tactical overhaul.

Ruben Amorim eyes bold reunion at Manchester United
“We are going to suffer for a long period… but this will take time,” Amorim admitted post-match.
One player who could ease the transition is Quenda. The Portugal youth international has thrived in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Sporting, featuring in 11 league games this season and making waves with his pace, versatility, and maturity beyond his years.
United are reportedly prepared to table a £50m bid for Quenda, with Sporting said to be “open to negotiating.” If the deal goes through, Quenda would provide much-needed depth and competition on United’s right flank, where Amad Diallo is still adjusting to a hybrid wing-back role.
Quenda’s record-breaking goal against Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup cemented his status as one of Europe’s brightest young talents—and a player who could thrive under Amorim’s guidance once again.
But Quenda isn’t the only Sporting star catching United’s eye. Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, who boasts a jaw-dropping 24 goals in 19 games this season, is also drawing attention from Europe’s elite. Scouts from Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are set to watch Sporting’s Champions League clash against Arsenal, with Gyökeres’ £62m price tag reflecting his meteoric rise.
Amorim’s familiarity with Sporting’s talent pool could give United an edge in negotiations. Both Quenda and Gyökeres fit the profile of dynamic, high-impact players who could transform United’s attack.
While some fans are excited about the prospect of landing Quenda, others question whether splashing £50m on a 17-year-old is the right move, especially given United’s well-documented need for reinforcements in other areas.
