Manchester United ready to splash £60M next

The summer spending spree of Manchester United is set to continue despite the conclusion of the deals to bring in Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Old Trafford.

According to new reports, the Red Devils are preparing to return with a massive £60 million bid for Everton’s highly-rated centre-back, Jarrad Branthwaite.

After securing deals for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, Manchester United is looking to bolster their defense further with the addition of the 21-year-old England international.

Despite already spending a combined £60 million on De Ligt and Mazraoui, United remains laser-focused on shoring up their backline following last season’s injury crisis. With new signing Leny Yoro sidelined for three months due to a foot injury, the urgency to bring in Branthwaite has intensified.

The Toffees, who value Branthwaite at £80 million, have already turned down United’s previous bids of £35 million and £50 million earlier this summer. However, sources indicate that Everton might be willing to accept the latest offer, especially since Branthwaite has reportedly agreed to personal terms with United worth £160,000 a week.

If this deal goes through, it will push United’s summer spending to a staggering £207.5 million in the first transfer window under the new minority ownership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe. This relentless pursuit of defensive reinforcements highlights United’s determination to avoid a repeat of last season’s injury woes.

As United prepares to kick off the 2024-25 Premier League season against Fulham at Old Trafford, all eyes will be on whether they can secure Branthwaite and further solidify their defense before the window slams shut. With the clock ticking and negotiations heating up, Manchester United fans are eagerly awaiting the next big move in what has already been a blockbuster summer of transfers.
