Manchester United makes final decision on Mason Greenwood

Manchester United have commenced negotiations with Lazio regarding the transfer of Mason Greenwood, according to a report by The Daily Mail. The move follows Greenwood’s loan spell at Getafe last season after an internal investigation by Manchester United into his conduct.

Greenwood, 22, was arrested in January 2022 following allegations related to material published on social media. The charges, which included attempted rape and assault, were dropped on February 2, 2023. Despite this, Manchester United decided against reintegrating him into their first-team squad after an end-of-season review.

During his time at Getafe, Greenwood made a significant impact, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions. With his future at Old Trafford now in question, the Red Devils are entertaining offers for the forward, and Lazio have expressed a keen interest.

The Italian side, who finished seventh in Serie A last season, have opened talks with Manchester United over a potential £30 million deal for Greenwood. This figure could increase based on performance-related add-ons. Lazio had previously shown interest in Greenwood before Getafe secured his loan move last season.

Lazio believe they can offer Greenwood a platform to continue his rehabilitation and build on the progress he made in Spain. The Rome-based club is confident that their project represents the best opportunity for Greenwood to further his career, despite competition from domestic rivals Juventus and Napoli, as well as teams from Spain, Germany, and Portugal.

As talks progress positively, Manchester United are preparing for additional offers from other clubs. Greenwood’s next move will be closely watched as he seeks to rebuild his career following his time at Getafe.
