Manchester United Fan proposes ‘Tactics’ to avoid City humiliation
As the highly-anticipated Manchester derby approaches, a passionate Manchester United fan has come up with a strategic plan to help their team avoid potential humiliation by their formidable rivals, Manchester City.
Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford promises to be a thrilling contest, with local bragging rights on the line.
United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is looking to extend his team’s winning streak to four games in all competitions, following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday.
However, they face the daunting task of taking on a Manchester City side that clinched the treble last season, making them a formidable opponent.
In a Reddit post, one creative fan has devised an alternative starting lineup that they believe could offer a shot at success on their home turf.
Departing from Ten Hag’s typical 4-3-3 formation, the proposed lineup employs a five-at-the-back system, featuring Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, and Sergio Reguilon as the defensive unit.
In the midfield, the fan suggests a trio of Sofyan Amrabat, Mason Mount, and Christian Eriksen, offering a different look compared to United’s customary formation.
Instead of relying on traditional wingers, the lineup places Bruno Fernandes in a support striker role alongside Rasmus Hojlund, notably excluding Marcus Rashford and Antony.
The Reddit user explained their formation, stating,
“Potential out of the box 11 for City? Antony and Rashford have basically offered nothing this season.
“Pack the center of the pitch. Try to steal something. Just want to avoid another humiliation tbh. Not a perfect 11, I know, but the way we’ve been playing, if we go with our usual lineup, I can see us getting torn to shreds.”
