Manchester United face Sofyan Amrabat dilemma

Manchester United is facing a pivotal decision regarding the future of Sofyan Amrabat as his loan spell from Fiorentina nears its end, according to reports originating from Italy.

The Moroccan midfielder, who gained acclaim for his performances during the 2022 World Cup, was a target for several elite clubs, including Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona, during the January transfer window.

Despite the interest, he remained at Fiorentina, contributing to their journey to the Europa Conference League final, ultimately losing to West Ham in Prague.

Amrabat’s arrival at Old Trafford on loan on deadline day in August was heralded as a strategic move by manager Erik ten Hag, who saw the midfielder as a crucial addition to United’s midfield lineup. However, the 27-year-old faced hurdles upon his arrival.

Injuries delayed his debut for United until September 23, and recent matches have seen him substituted at halftime in both starts. While he displayed promise in earlier games, his role in the team’s future remains uncertain, despite being on the bench for United’s last two Premier League fixtures.

Reports from Italian outlet Fiorentina News suggest that Amrabat is highly likely to return to Fiorentina this summer instead of sealing a permanent deal with Manchester United.

Furthermore, it is speculated that he is more inclined to join another club rather than continue with the Italian side.

Ten Hag had praised Amrabat’s versatility, highlighting his ability to play multiple positions on the field. The Dutch manager had previously stated,

“He is also capable of playing in a higher position on the pitch and even he can play as a wing-back or full-back.”

While Amrabat deputized as a left-back during United’s injury crisis in that position, his potential was seen to lie primarily in the midfield.

However, United’s stance on a permanent signing might shift over the course of the season if the current considerations about Amrabat’s future remain unchanged.
