Manchester United face potential crisis as Staff team seek exit
The supposed laissez-faire handling of the Mason Greenwood and Antony scandals could reportedly cost Manchester United its staff members as a new report claims the Old Trafford club could be facing a potential exodus of staffers.
The potential exodus of staffers is alleged to be as a result of the club’s handling of two high-profile cases involving Mason Greenwood and Antony, with the staffers stated to be disheartened .
Mason Greenwood, a young forward at the club, became the subject of an internal investigation earlier this year following his arrest in 2022 over allegations of rape and assault.
However, these charges were subsequently discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February, citing the withdrawal of key witnesses and the emergence of new evidence.
Following this, an internal investigation mutually decided that Greenwood would continue his career elsewhere, and he was subsequently loaned to La Liga side Getafe on transfer deadline day.
During this period of uncertainty, The Athletic reported that Manchester United was considering reinstating Greenwood to the first team, with club CEO Richard Arnold preparing to record a video to explain the decision-making process.
In a separate case, Antony, the Brazilian winger of the club, faced investigation by Greater Manchester Police concerning domestic abuse allegations made by his ex-girlfriend.
Antony repeatedly denied these allegations with Manchester United, in a statement last month, confirming that Antony would be granted a period of leave with full pay following the international break to address the allegations.
Subsequently, he returned to training and competitive matches for the team, with United announcing they would keep the situation under review pending further developments.
The Daily Mail now reports that a significant number of Manchester United staff have actively sought new employment due to disillusionment with the club’s handling of both cases.
Sources suggest that many staff members are experiencing a deep sense of dissatisfaction and believe there has been mismanagement in addressing these sensitive matters.
Furthermore, the Daily Mail reveals that Richard Arnold presided over an all-staff meeting last month, where he faced extensive questioning regarding the club’s approach to the Greenwood and Antony situations.
