Manchester United face harsh reality ahead of Sevilla return-leg
Manchester United could be without five first-team players for their upcoming Europa League quarter-final second leg against Sevilla in Spain.
Fans are concerned about the team’s chances of success in the competition and the remainder of the season after the Red Devils threw away their two-goal lead in the first leg to end in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Bruno Fernandes is definitely ruled out of the game due to suspension, following his yellow card for a controversial handball call. Meanwhile, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, who both missed the first leg, may still be sidelined. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who were both forced off due to injury during the match, are also unlikely to feature in the return leg.
Manchester United fans have expressed their concerns about the team’s chances in light of the possible absences, and some are predicting a tough road ahead for the team this season.
A fan took to Twitter to express their opinion, saying: “Our season is done, it’s been a great ride but we’re getting smacked against Nottingham Forest as well as Sevilla next week. All because of the injuries and all the games we’ve played.”
Another fan tweeted: “Bar Fernandes, we could be without them for a while.”
While a third commented: “We are done. Not going through against Sevilla and we are lucky if we can hang on to 4th in the league. Pathetic.” Other fans suggested the team should focus on the top four positions in the Premier League and prioritize squad rotation instead of risking further injuries in the Europa League.
Manchester United currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League table, and they will face Nottingham Forest on Sunday as they continue their league campaign. However, the potential loss of several key players could make their bid for a top-four finish more challenging.
