Manchester City To Expand Etihad Stadium

Manchester City Football Club has revealed plans to expand the Etihad Stadium, which will make it the fourth largest stadium in the Premier League. The expansion project, announced on Tuesday, will increase the current capacity of the stadium from 53,400 to over 60,000. Early designs show an additional 7,700 seats along with a covered fan zone.

In a statement on their website, Manchester City said that they are “delighted to unveil concepts for a best-in-class fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at the Etihad Stadium, with fans and the local community invited to share their feedback from today until Sunday 26 March.”

The proposal includes a covered City Square fan zone with a capacity of 3,000, a variety of food and drink outlets, a new club shop, museum, and hotel to offer a broader range of matchday and non-matchday activities.

The Etihad Stadium expansion project will make it the fourth largest stadium in the Premier League behind Manchester United’s Old Trafford, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and West Ham’s London Stadium. Manchester City has also pledged to address the travel measures for the stadium in order to improve sustainability.

Fans have been reacting positively to the news on social media, with one fan suggesting that “it needs to be affordable seating for the general city fan base.” Another fan commented that “as long as they get the acoustics right, we are good.” The club has stated that should planning permission be submitted and approved, the work will be carried out over a three-year period.
