Manchester City suffer Injury crisis ahead of Community Shield

Well, it appears both Liverpool and Manchester City may not be heading into the season at full strength as Manchester City suffer an injury crisis ahead of tomorrow’s Community Shield fixture.

This follows after Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager confirmed to the press yesterday that 6 of his players were set to miss out on the fixture with some missing the first game of the Premier League season even.

Now, Manchester City confirms they will be without defender Aymeric Laporte ahead of the Community Shield match.

The match which comes as some sort of a glorified friendly, sees the winner of the FA Cup go against the Premier League winners in the very first game that marks the beginning of the Premier League season.

Aymeric Laporte is set to miss the first month of the season after undergoing a knee surgery in the summer.

The injury crisis was confirmed when Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola sat with the press to reveal the Spanish international had played through pain to help City secure the Premier League title against Liverpool last season.

New signings Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Alvarez are all set to be available for the game against the Reds.

“Laporte is injured. He had knee surgery after last season, played the last two or three games with an important injury and made an incredible effort.

“He had surgery, so far is doing really well but you have to be careful with your knee. I think through August he will be out, by September I think maybe he will start to be with us,” Guardiola told reporters.

With both teams not to full strength, the scale of balance may be quite equal even if Manchester City still remain favorites ahead of the game for the shield.
