Manchester City plot to 'replace' Haaland in January

Manchester City might be gearing up for a plunge into the transfer market as they grapple with the absence of Erling Haaland, potentially seeking a replacement during the upcoming January window.

Haaland, the prolific goal scorer, is facing an uncertain spell on the sidelines after sustaining a foot injury, forcing him to miss City’s recent 2-1 victory over Luton. This marked the first injury-related absence for the striker this season, leaving the duration of his recovery shrouded in ambiguity.

Following the Luton game, City manager Pep Guardiola expressed doubt regarding Haaland’s return for the team’s upcoming Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. However, there remains a possibility of his comeback for the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia next week.

Guardiola shed light on Haaland’s injury, terming it a “bone stress reaction,” while affirming that no fracture had occurred. The Norwegian striker has been a force, netting 19 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions this season, marking his second campaign with Manchester City after a record-breaking debut.

During Haaland’s absence against Luton, Julian Alvarez stepped in admirably, securing an assist. Nevertheless, Alvarez typically operates in midfield and has filled in for the sidelined Kevin De Bruyne.

According to reports from Football Insider, a club source revealed that City has the financial capability to secure a replacement in the January transfer window if Haaland’s injury turns out to be more severe than initially anticipated.

Meanwhile, the imminent return of Kevin De Bruyne, who has been sidelined for the entire season due to injury, is on the horizon. His comeback coincides fortuitously with Haaland’s absence, providing a much-needed boost to the squad.
