Man United not Giving Up, Xavi Unsure of De Jong

It’s more a case of rolling the dice on the Frenkie de Jong situation at Man United and Barcelona as the Summer Transfer Window lingers on into the beginning of the season.

The situation is one no club has a foot-hold on but the Dutch midfielder himself who decides where the dice eventually lands.

As far as Barcelona coach, Xavi is concerned, he doesn’t know where that is as he is not even sure where Frenkie de Jong will be playing at when the season begins or when the market officially closes.

The former Ajax man has held the final say on where his moves will eventually land him as Manchester United, and lately Chelsea are being linked to him.

Despite the insistence of Barcelona wanting the Dutchman out of the club in order to balance their books, Frenkie de Jong has held no secrets about his desire to remain at the Camp Nou.

Xavi speaking right after the pre-season friendly against NY Red Bulls over the weekend, he revealed he doesn’t need to send a signal over the player’s future as the future was very much uncertain as at the moment.

“I don’t know if he’s [De Jong] going to stay here. There is still time and a lot of things can still happen.” He said.

“At the moment, he’s part of the team, like everyone else. The fact that he played as a central defender in the other games was not a sign that he was leaving.” the Barcelona legend denied amidst speculations.

It can be recalled that it was reported Barcelona were making moves to force the Dutchman out of the club by having Frenkie de Jong play in defence.

“I don’t need to send signals on the pitch. I can speak directly with my footballers.” Xavi added.

With all the uncertainty, Man United are still intent on making another bid for the midfielder again in a last ditch effort to bring the player over to Old Trafford.
