Man remanded for attempted murder of Police Officer in Lagos

A 39-year-old man, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Ogba, Lagos State, for allegedly attempting to kill a police inspector, Oche Joseph.

The accused was said to have used a machete to hit the officer on his head and right hand, causing grievous bodily harm, in the Oshodi area of Lagos State.

According to The Punch, Ekwueme was arraigned on Thursday before the court on a single charge of attempted murder.

The prosecutor, Insp Felicia Okwu, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 17, 2023.

She also stated that the offence was punishable under Section 230(a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

 

According to the charge sheet; “That you, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, on April 17, 2023, around 10.05am at Makinde Police Station, Mafokuku, Oshodi in the Ikeja Magisterial District did attempt to murder one Inspector Oche Joseph by using a machete to inflict fatal injuries on the back of his head and right hand, causing him grievous bodily harm and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 230(a) (b) Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

Magistrate Ojeh, presiding over the case, ordered the prosecutor to send the duplicate of the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The accused, Chukwuebuka Ekwueme, was then remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the outcome of the legal advice.
