Man finishes with 4.96 CGPA in mathematics from Unilorin

A Nigerian man has gotten many people talking after graduating with a first-class degree and a CGPA of 4.96 out of 5.0 in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Ilorin, Unilorin.

In a post shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, he celebrated his remarkable achievement with photos and a snapshot of his academic results.

He captioned the post: “First Class B.Sc. Mathematics ✅ CGPA of 4.96 out of 5.0 ✅ All A’s in 5 out of 8 semesters ✅ Second-best graduating student ✅ Mathematics Department and Faculty of Physical Science ✅ Thank you.”

In light of increasing population growth, the Government of Canada, under the leadership of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has made the decision to revise its open immigration policy. This adjustment will involve a reduction in the number of permanent residents permitted to enter the country.

Recent announcements from the Trudeau administration indicate a plan to decrease the influx of newcomers, reflecting changing public sentiment regarding immigration. Reports project a 20% decline in immigration rates to Canada as a result of this strategic shift.

The newly formulated immigration plan, presented by Immigration Minister Marc Miller, outlines a target of approximately 395,000 permanent residents to be accepted in 2025, marking a significant decrease from the anticipated 485,000 for the current year.

Additionally, the strategy aims to reduce the number of temporary immigrants, including international students and foreign workers, to an estimated 446,000 in 2025 and 2026, down from around 800,000 currently. By 2027, Canada intends to limit the acceptance of new non-permanent residents to just 17,400.

These policy changes are projected to result in a population decrease of 0.2% over the next two years, a shift from the robust population growth of 3% witnessed in the second quarter of this year. If successfully implemented, this will mark the first occasion in Canada’s history that the population has decreased since the 1950s.

In a recent press conference, Prime Minister Trudeau characterized this strategy as a “pause” in population growth, designed to allow various government levels the necessary time to strengthen healthcare, housing, and social services in order to effectively cater to the needs of future populations.
