A man identified as Vandu Weida, 29-year-old man, has committed suicide by drinking herbicides.

The incident happened at Mildu Central, in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State yesterday.

Vandu, a father of three, had a misunderstanding with his wife, which led to a fight.

An eyewitness said during the fight, Vandu Weida told his wife that he was fed up with her and the world and he preferred to die in order to leave her with the children.

After the fight, the man, who could not control his temper, allegedly went and drank the chemical, and was later found on the ground gasping for breath.

He was immediately taken to Mubi General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead, as the substance had already damaged his intestines.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Nguroje , said he was not aware of the incident, but promised to get back after contacting the Madagali Police Division.

He had yet to get back to our correspondent as of the time of filing this report.

Herbicides also commonly known as weedkillers , are substances used to control unwanted plants. Selective herbicides control specific weed species, while leaving the desired crop relatively unharmed, while non-selective herbicides (sometimes called total weedkillers in commercial products) can be used to clear waste ground, industrial and construction sites, railways and railway embankments as they kill all plant material with which they come into contact.
