Man dies inside soakaway in attempt to rescue his phone
A Kano-based man has been confirmed dead in a septic tank while trying to retrieve his phone.
A 40-year-old man, identified as Mu’azu Garba has reportedly died while trying to rescue his mobile phone from a soakaway at Jigirya in the Nassarawa local government of the State.
The incident, which happened on Thursday, April 28 was confirmed in a statement by the spokesman for Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi.
According to Abdullahi, the agency received a distressed call from one Abbas Abubakar, on Thursday at about 1:35 pm that a man had been trapped inside a soakaway.
He said the deceased was making attempts to bring out his mobile phone that fell inside the soakaway, but unfortunately got stuck inside the pit.
“We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 1:45 p.m,” Abdullahi said.
He, however, said the victim was brought out of the septic tank already dead, and his corpse was handed over to the ward head of Jigirya, Nuhu Adamu.
TopNaija understands that Garba was using his mobile phone in the toilet when it fell inside and he went down to get it from the sewer.
In a related development, the state fire service also testified how two girls, two-year-old Fatima Lawan, and nine-year-old Khadija Lawan, fell inside a well at Dan Gawo village in Bichi LGA of the state, and how they were rescued.
“We also received an emergency call from Bichi Fire Station on April 27, at about 5:35 p.m. from a Hisbah official on the incident, and sent our rescue team to the scene at about 5:40 p.m.,” he said.
He said both girls were handed over to their father, Malam Lawan.
Mr. Abdullahi said Miss Fatima had backed her sister, Miss Khadija, and went to fetch water at the well when she slipped and fell inside with the two-year-old strapped to her back.
