Catholic Archdiocese orders closure of school after attack in Makurdi
The Catholic Archdiocese of Makurdi, Benue State, has taken decisive action following an attack on Father Angus Frazer Memorial High School in Adeke, Makurdi.
Unknown gunmen targeted the school on Tuesday night, but security personnel managed to repel the assailants. While there were no casualties, one security officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury.
In response to the incident, the Diocese swiftly ordered the closure of the school until further notice.
Very Revd. Fr. Moses Iorapuu, the Director of Social Communications of the Diocese, emphasized that this measure was necessary to safeguard the students’ lives and prevent potential tragedy.
The decision was made in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.
The statement further highlighted the ongoing security challenges in the area, particularly incidents involving suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The Diocese called for heightened security measures across all Catholic premises and appealed to government authorities to ensure the safety of citizens.
Father Angus Frazer Memorial High School, situated in the Welfare Quarters at Utuur Layout, Phase 3 of Makurdi, has become a focal point of concern amid the escalating security situation in the region.
