"Lucky Lisandro Martinez" — PGMOL angers Chelsea fans

The PGMOL has once again sparked fan fury and debate after deciding not to give Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez a red card for his late-game tackle on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

With just a minute left on the clock, Martinez caught Palmer with a high-studded challenge to the knee—a move that left many spectators calling for a sending-off.

Referee Robert Jones initially issued Lisandro Martinez a yellow, but VAR official Michael Salisbury reviewed the incident and, to the dismay of many, chose to uphold the booking rather than escalate it to a red card. A Premier League statement clarified that the tackle was deemed “reckless” but did not constitute “serious foul play.”

Yet, fans aren’t buying it.

One fan slammed the league for “baffling inconsistency,” claiming Martinez dodged a red card where “any other player would have been sent off.”

Another sarcastically noted that Martinez’s “biggest asset” seems to be “avoiding red cards that are red in any other situation.”

Roy Keane also weighed in, saying Lisandro Martinez was “very lucky” to stay on the pitch—a sentiment widely shared by the Chelsea faithful.

The outrage echoes a similar debate over Bruno Fernandes’ controversial challenge against Spurs earlier this season. The recurring leniency shown toward United players has led to accusations of inconsistency and even favoritism, adding fuel to an already heated fan base.

Whether you agree or disagree, it’s another chapter in the ongoing VAR saga that continues to divide Premier League fans.

The debate isn’t cooling down anytime soon.
