LTV Station Suffers Mismanagement ( SEE DETAILS)

The facility of the Lagos State Television (LTV) authorities have become  underperforming through mismanagement and abandonment by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led government.

The LTV station was established in October 1980 by Jakande, a Nigerian journalist who became the governor of Lagos in Nigeria from 1979 to 1983.

A top official at the station said on Tuesday that the station could not air since Monday because they did not get diesel.

The official, who revealed this anonymously, accused the General Manager, Siju Alabi of poor administrative policies which were the major cause of the problem.

The official said, “Are you aware that we have been having epileptic transmission of late in the name of no diesel? If you are close to your TV set, kindly tune in to our station. We have been off air since 3.30pm yesterday (Monday) and even as we speak, nothing has changed.

“That has been the situation in the last two months and the governor is doing nothing to boot out the woman. He would rather go to TVC.

“The entire complex is in darkness as we speak. And members of staff are outside. Radio is transmitting because the man in charge is competent but TV is off air and those in Alausa (the government house) are not even moved.”

The official also blamed Mrs Alabi for bringing low morale to the workforce of the organisation.

During her reappointment as the LTV GM for the second time in early 2022, some allegations levelled against her put her competence to question.

Despite being rated as a superb and seasoned broadcaster, it is claimed that she lacks administrative skills.

Additionally, it is claimed that while she was in charge, the worker pensions had not been paid to the right pension fund administrators since 2020.

Also, incompetent contractors were allegedly given contracts and procurements without following the proper procedures, some station employees’ career advancement was allegedly halted, and some employees were allegedly transferred to departments where they were made redundant.

It was further reported how Bola Tinubu, who was governor of the state from 1999 to 2007, for instance, abandoned the television station to establish his private TV station, Television Continental (TVC).

It was also alleged that the Babatunde Fashola administration in Lagos State also abandoned LTV while patronising private TV stations.

The staff member added that the past governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, seemed to show support for the LTV but it was alleged that Ambode’s cronies exploited this, accessed billions of naira from the governor and put it in their own pockets.

The incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has also allegedly been using Arise TV and TVC while neglecting the state-owned station.
