Anthony Chinasa-Abiola, who emerged as the winner of the Umuahia Central Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly, has addressed rumours about his ethnicity, stating that he is not of Yoruba descent.
Speculations about his ethnic background were fuelled by his name which contains the popular Yoruba name “Abiola”. However, Chinasa-Abiola has explained that he adopted the name as a nickname or “guy name” to show support for Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in Lagos.
During an interview with TVC, Chinasa-Abiola clarified that he is not a Yoruba man, thus putting to rest the rumours about his ethnic identity.
His clarification shows that he is focused on his role as the representative of the Umuahia Central Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, and will continue to work towards the betterment of his constituency and the state as a whole.
As a newly elected member of the state House of Assembly, Chinasa-Abiola’s election victory has boosted his credibility and reputation as a promising and influential figure in Abia politics.

In other news, Offiong Edet, a 38-year-old man, has been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrates’ Court in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly stealing two tricycles worth N2.4m.The tricycles belong to a man, identified as Jepter Chukwuma, and the theft occurred in the
Agege area of Lagos State.
Offiong is facing two counts of theft preferred against him by the police, and the case was brought before Magistrate O.A Ogunjobi on Wednesday.
The prosecutor, Lasaki Ridwan, told the court that the defendant committed the offense in the Agege area of Lagos State. The offense is punishable under Sections 287 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant has not entered a plea, and the case has been adjourned until April 19, 2022, for the commencement of trial.
The charge sheet read, “That you Offiong Edet on November 28, 2022, and on February 2, 2023, at No. 117 Old Abeokuta Motor Road Agege, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District did steal two tricycles with registration Numbers AKD 463 QL valued at N1.8m and LND 477 QK valued at N600, 000, all total valued at N2.4m, property of one Jepter Chukwuma ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
“That you, Offiong Edet, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by converting two tricycles valued at N2.4m property of one Jepter Chukwuma ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 168(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”
Magistrate Ogunjobi granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned till April 19 for mention.
