The Bayer Leverkusen boss who recently took on Arsenal in a pre-season friendly, spoke about his predictions for the season.

According to Xabi Alonso, he believes the Premier League title race is set to be a fierce three-way battle yet again like last season, with Arsenal and Liverpool poised to challenge Manchester City for the crown. Speaking after his side’s 4-0 defeat to the Gunners in a pre-season friendly, Alonso praised Arsenal’s ongoing project under Mikel Arteta and hinted that Liverpool, too, are ready to re-enter the fray.

Xabi Alonso, reflecting on Arsenal’s narrow miss last season, where they finished just two points behind City, expressed confidence that the North London club is building something special.

“Arsenal for sure it’s not just last year, they have been creating a project, Mikel is leading a great team at a great club,” Alonso said. “They are going to be challenging with the big ones for sure.”

He also highlighted the strength of City and the resurgence of Liverpool, suggesting that this season’s title race could be one of the most competitive in years.

“City will be there, Liverpool are coming with other ones as well.”
